Hey! Look out! Listen! Why Navi doesn't deserve her bad rep.

"Sidekicks, by their very nature, are unappreciated. They do all the heavy lifting, while some square-jawed schmuck hogs the spotlight. There is that old shred of wisdom that Ginger Rogers had to do every step that Fred Astaire did, but backwards, and in heels. The fate of the videogame sidekick is no different. They're put through the exact paces that the heroes go through - slogging through every ambush or pit trap, schlepping through every dungeon or monster-infested cave - but the sidekicks receive none of the payoff. They don't get the glory. They don't get the girl. The best they can hope for is that the girl has a palette-swapped younger sister with her weekends free."
------

Brendan Main said:

As a further indignity, sometimes the lack of appreciation for the companions of the protagonist runs deeper and the player starts to hate sharing the spotlight. Among gamers, the dislike of sidekicks might be a conditioned response - after decades of buggy escort quests and lobotomized A.I., it's instinctual to distrust the "plus ones" and the tagalongs of the gaming universe that seem to exist solely to drag ass, spout inane dialogue, and absorb bullets like a sponge with a death wish. Fair enough. But every now and again, this ire is directed at someone who is undeserving of such hatred - one companion who is wise and worthy, a sidekick that kicks ass. This might be why the all-time greatest sidekick in the history of gaming is also one of the most under-appreciated ... and by that I mean "loathed with a thick bilious hate that chokes out the sun."

I'm talking about Navi, from Ocarina of Time.

Navi is unappreciated, and Brendan Main of The Escapist here to tell you why. Personally, I haven't ever had a problem with Navi. She was indeed the embodiment of something I was not irate at. Please read the following article and reflect upon any misgivings you may have against our fairy friend.

Hyrule.net wins "The Catalog" Lozzie

This last week our friends over at LegendofZelda.com ran the second annual Lozzie Awards, a series of awards that are given to Zelda Fansites for either long or short term achievements.

Last year Hyrule.net won "The Socialite" an award that marked our forum community the most appealing. This year we have been given "The Catalog" an award that praises the navigation we have here at Hyrule.net.

More information after the jump!

------

"'Hyrule.net has a lot of things going for them. First of all their design, though simple, is very attractive, and for years now, they have been one of the leading sites in terms of interactivity within the Zelda community. Yet, one attribute of Hyrule.net that sometimes gets over looked is the site’s navigation. Hyrule.net focuses on fan activities and therefore they put int a lot of effort to make sure that their fans can find everything as needed. Their layout is one of the most navigable sites in the community because they choose to keep things simple and easy. Perhaps the most notable example is their new formatting. The default option is set to display All News, but they went with a tabbed approach which allows users to easily switch between Zelda news, site news, and etc. Though a very basic concept, it is the little things like this that makes visiting Hyrule.net a great experience for its users.' – Noah Glaser of Legend Zelda

Last year, Hyrule.net was the winner of our 'Socialite' award, and this year they have justly received a different award. The Catalog is one of our new awards, and it is awarded to the site with the best navigation, meaning that it is easy and logical to navigate through the winning site.

Hyrule.net's layout is simple, sleek, and plain. It does not try to hide information or overcategorize things. Everything is laid out logically: Overarching categories such as Forums, Games, and Guides are all at the top, news categories are tabbed, and they have a login box to make everything connected. However, their sidebar is where they really take the cake.

The first heading on their sidebar is 'Most Popular' rather than 'Main' or something else. This immediately tells the visitor that everything in that tab is popular, meaning it is likely to be something they want to look at. The visitor immediately is drawn to those pages and knows ahead of time that those pages are the most worth their time.

The rest of the sidebar is also clearly labeled and logical. It is pretty large, and contains a lot of great things to look at. It gives the impression that the site isn’t heavily tiered, so that it’s easy to go from section to section without having to climb through several layers of sub-pages. These features are what make Hyrule.net such an easy to navigate site for all Zelda fans.

In the end, their site is by far the most easily navigable site in the Zelda Community. There are other sites with great navigational designs, but none rises to the standard set by Hyrule.net. Congratulations to them on their second Lozzie!"

Edit----

I'd also like to congratulate to the following sites for also winning a Lozzie:

Well guys,

As you know there's been a good few changes on The Zelda Chat Network. It's been over a year since it became part of the NixtrixIRC family and witht he work of tappy I started picking up the pieces from FusionChat & Microswift.

Now with new servers, better staff and more variety of channels I think we've made it clear we're here to stay. With improvements come new faces such as Zelda Dungeon and a few others which are in the pipeline.

Time and time again... People decide to remember the bad days of the the old TZCN and not the good ones. It was once a great community which threvied from all things zelda. The fresh new chat network just doesn't focus only on zelda but from general chat, gaming, webhosting and much much more. So if you have a website and would like your own chat hosted by us (free of charge) then pop onto the chat and ask for Nixtrix.

Come on guys show your support for once a thriving community

Nintendo's next home console will surprise you

Nintendo told us, as soon as the Gamecube was made the Wii was practically already in development.
Either for the DS, as soon the DS was made the '3DS' was in development.

Nintendo also told us that when the Wii was finished that made up ideas and development for their next home console.
Nintendo doesn't want to say anything about their new console, because they don't want other companies to steal ideas from them.

Just like 'Playstation Move' and 'Kincect (xbox360)'. Though, Kincect is more a clone of the Eye-Toy, but that's only like that because they couldn't ask more of the Xbox 360. Like Playstation 3 could.
Else Microsoft of course asked money for every single new controller, like Sony.

Read more about Nintendo's word on their new console right after the jump!

Fake art concept

Quote

Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata recently told investors that the company is hard at work on a new console which is sure to offer an original gaming experience. Iwata promised that Nintendo will once again innovate but will be keeping this new project under wraps as long as they can so competitors won't steal their ideas. Iwata also wants to surprise fans and states knowing about something for a long time before it launches takes away from the experience.

"I am afraid to say that the history of entertainment is also the history of imitation. A great idea will promptly be copied unless protected through patents. At the same time, it is really important for our business to positively surprise people. Will you be surprised by our completed product if we told you how it is surprising three years in advance? Therefore, we basically disclose information on our products as late as possible. We believe this is the best approach for the entertainment products we are developing."

The Nintendo Wii turns five at the end of next year so who knows what E3 2011 will bring.
